We both suffered from postpartum depression with both of our children. Since PMDs affect nearly 1 in 7 moms and 1 in 10 dads, we know this is big issue in our country. Only recently has it been more recognized and families are starting to get the help they need. We are both passionate about this cause and felt like the time was right to really push it to the forefront in our society.
Sometimes to get noticed, you have to make a statement. This is our statement.
Between now and the event (and beyond), we’ll be spreading the word and letting the world learn more about PMDs. You can follow along with us as we journey forward. We’ll be teachers and we’ll be students. We’ll interact, we’ll share, and we’ll learn.
The bottom line is, we want to help others who are dealing with PMDs. By doing so, we’ll help moms and dads be happier, which in turn will raise stronger, more stable and healthier children.
The swim will help bring attention to this mental illness and offer hope to those in need.
